| WeBuildPeople is the YMCA of the Triangle’s annual fundraising campaign. It raises funds for children and families who can’t otherwise fully afford YMCA programs and services. WeBuildPeople changes lives.
Did you know three in 10 North Carolina children are unsupervised in the afternoons and during the summer? Many parents say summer day camps and after school programs are not available or just too expensive. At YMCAs across the Triangle last summer, more than 625 children participated each week in Camp High Hopes and Camp Y-Rageous. For our families that are enrolled, this outreach program is an answered prayer. Many are experiencing challenges at home that put basic needs like childcare and summer activities out of reach. If it were not for Camp High Hopes and Camp Y-Rageous, most of the young people we are serving would be at home, all summer long unsupervised. Thanks to WeBuildPeople donations, these children participate in traditional summer day camp fun and receive reading assistance and two hot meals each day. In 2008, Saint Augustine’s College became the permanent home for Camp High Hopes. “It’s so wonderful to see these children playing outside, having fun and making new friends,” says Marc Newman, Saint Augustine’s College Vice President. “Without the YMCA, most of these children would be home alone.
